Working Out!? What's the point??

Its tough, redundant and gets in the way of LIFE! All the diet pills, miracle meal plans and quick workout videos out there, is proof of how time management is an essential part of exercising regularly. When juggling school, work, and kids (and MAYBE a social life); Time can be the main conflict in anything! How do I make it work? Read on...

"What I really wanted to tell her                      was, full body workouts (like the elliptical machine, jumping rope or SWIMMING) are a lot better at burning body fat than ab exercises alone."

I was at planet fitness the other day, working on my abs with this machine; i believe its called "the torso twist".

These two heavy set women begin using the torso twist machine next to me. They didnt really know how to use it, so they started asking me for instructions on proper operation of the machine and what routines should she follow. How do i answer that? I told them, it depends.... then they asked "well..what's your routine??" I told her my routine. What I really wanted to tell her is, full body workouts (like the elliptical machine, jumping rope or SWIMMING) are a lot better at burning body fat than ab exercises alone.

This is the same approach that many people take in not only exercise, but in life. So many people want the easiest, most quickest way to get to the end result. Why? I did some thinking and noticed the problem. People see exercise as a chore. What's even more sad is, "wellness" in its entirety is often seen as a chore. Wellness is the state of mental and physical well being.

Exercising should be fun! Most athletes have great bodies. Why? Because they exercise right? But what's behind their motive? Its passion. Their choice of lifestyle is not a chore, it's a way of life. Once you make anything as a part of your lifestyle, it becomes effortless. If you're out of shape, and you're doing P90X or Insanity workout videos; I say, do yourself a favor and put them down. If you're into workout videos, try something for beginners. Elastic bands are great! So are Jump Ropes. Point is, to find a routine that'll make you look forward in exercising again. So yea, if you're super fit and have great cardio, then those intense workout videos might be the type of challenge you look forward to. But if you find yourself out of breath after climbing a few flights of stairs; Then using an intense workout video is only gonna overwhelm your body, eventually make the idea of working out a turn off, leaving you with the same problem to deal with for next year.

The best thing to do is to start small. Leave yourself room for growth. And keep moving forward. Oh yea, and tell the mirror to kiss your ass. If you're not doing this for wellness, and you just focus on visible results, focusing on the mirror will only show whatever's most vulnerable to you.
